Trusting The Lord…

Where togo for a swim.png

I have to tell you guys that for quite some time I had been struggling with a pretty big (in my opinion) decision.

Mid-last year I had the opportunity to sign up for a study abroad trip to Costa Rica fort this July. Immediately I signed up because it sounded amazing, and I knew I probably would not get the opportunity to go to Costa Rica again for such a great price.

A few weeks after I signed up, fear set in. Fear of the unknown. Fear of not being in control. Fear of separation.

I have to tell you all, I am a home body. I do not like to be away from the people I love… especially my fiancé (and of course, the trip is during his birthday). I juggled with the thought of skipping the trip or pushing myself to go.

I started to drive myself crazy with overthinking… so I decided to pray about it. I asked God if I was supposed to go. I asked him if this trip would benefit me and help me grow. I asked him to show me a sign, or give me some sort of inclination of what I was supposed to do.

That same night I read my daily devotion:

“You wrestled and tried to plan every possible mishap or control every outcome to avoid mistakes. You are not alone, Moses did the same thing. Have faith, God does not ask us to do things we cannot handle. He will go before us and make way for courage, confidence, and peace if you trust him.”

WOW! I mean c’mon, there is no way that was a coincidence!

From that moment on, my decision was made. I know it will be way outside of my comfort bubble… but I have to go where the Lord leads me. I really believe that God had this planned for me, and that he will use me on this trip.

I am so excited for my upcoming adventure in Costa Rica! My passport just came in the mail and the trip details are being finalized as we speak!

I can’t wait to share this experience with you all.

Are any of you taking a trip this summer?!

Tell me about it in the comments below!

Wedding Photography Tips (& What I Am Doing)…

NOT USED (15).png

Hello lovelies! I have some VERY exciting news… Troy and I have an official wedding date! We are getting married in OCTOBER 2019! Save the date because you are all invited to watch my wedding unfold via this blog!😉

There is LOTS to do before the big day. I hope you’ll keep reading and come along with me on the entire adventure!

Here are some of my wedding photography tips, important questions to ask, and a closer look into my own plans:

Prioritize What Is Most Important To YOU

A lot of people might try to tell you that you “have to have this” or “have to do that”… but no, you really don’t. Prioritize what is most important to you on your wedding day, and set your budget accordingly. I realized that once mine and Troy’s wedding day is over, all we will have left is photos. These photos will be hung in our home, shared with family and friends, and shown to our future children and grandchildren.  For me, photography was the most important thing- no doubt about it.

Do Your Research

Look at different photographers websites, Facebook pages, and Instagram accounts. I cannot stress this enough but READ REVIEWS FROM PREVIOUS CUSTOMERS! It is so important to know the good and the bad about what you’re potentially going to invest in. Make sure you look at the photographer’s portfolio and really make sure they have the photography style that you’re looking for.

Ask Questions!!!

Just like I stated in my previous wedding blog, make sure you meet with your photographer to ask important questions before you book with them.

I had meeting via facetime with my photographer. I told her a little bit about myself, about my relationship, and about my vision for our engagement session & wedding day.

After we chatted personally for a bit, these are the more professional questions I asked her:

  1. How long have you been a photographer?
  2. How many weddings do you shoot a year?
  3. What do you love most about your job/shooting weddings?
  4. What kind of equipment do you use?
  5. Do you have backup equipment if that fails?
  6. What would happen in the case of an emergency?
  7. Do you have my date available?
  8. Will I be the only wedding that day?
  9. Have you ever shot at my venue?
  10. Who else will be shooting with you?
  11. How are responsibilities divided between you and your other photographer?
  12. Can I build my own package?
  13. What is included in the price?
  14. Are there other fees included in the cost?
  15. What is the post-wedding process?
  16. What is turnaround time for the photos?
  17. What are our options for prints and albums?
  18. What is your payment policy?
  19. What is your cancellation policy?

So What Am I Going To Do?

For our engagement photos (included in our wedding package), I think I would like to do something similar to an empty first home photo session. I want to keep it really casual but still sentimental. For our wedding, I envision CRISP natural light photography, but not too much light because I really still want the boldness of our deep autumn colors to pop.

I am thrilled to say that we have our photographer and she is a dream come true! Her work is amazing and I can’t wait to share the photos on the blog with you all!

Wedding Venue Tips (& What I Am Doing)…

Hello lovelies! I have some VERY exciting news… Troy and I have an official wedding date! We are getting married in OCTOBER 2019! Save the date because you are all invited to watch my wedding unfold via this blog!😉

There is LOTS to do before the big day. I hope you’ll keep reading and come along with me on the entire adventure!

Here are some of my wedding venue tips, important questions to ask, and a closer look into what I am doing for my own wedding:

Book Your Venue First

When it comes to wedding planning, I suggest booking your venue first! Venues fill up very quickly… in fact, most places tell you to book at least 2 years in advance. Lucky for me, Troy and I chose a wedding date that is a little under 2 years away.

Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Basket

Make sure to look around! I browsed through A LOT of venues. I didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars if we were not doing a destination wedding… and Troy wanted our wedding close to home so that all of our family was able to make it. My style has also changed a lot over the years, as well… I always thought I wanted a rustic wedding. I realize now that my style is more elegant and fresh. It is okay to change your mind and come up with new ideas!

Ask a LOT of Questions

Troy and I scheduled a sit down meeting with our wedding venue to ask important questions and tour the facility. It was so crucial for me to actually visit the venue and meet the people who will be there on our big day. I brought a list of questions for myself, Troy, and the owner for our meeting.

Here are all of the questions that we went over:

  1. Do you have my date available?
  2. Will my wedding be the only one on my date?
  3. Can we hold a rehearsal the day before?
  4. What is the minimum and maximum number of guests the venue holds?
  5.  What is included in the rental price?
  6. What is not included that we will need to provide ourselves?
  7. Can I use vendors of my choice?
  8. Do you have a list of recommended vendors?
  9. Do you set up and tear down the items that you provide?
  10. Can I see samples of items you provide?
  11. Will there be a day-of onsite coordinator?
  12. How many people on staff will be assisting us the day of the wedding?
  13. When can I begin set up on my wedding day?
  14. What is the rain plan?
  15. Are there any restrictions on the use of the space?
  16. Are there any noise restrictions?
  17. Are there any photography/videography restrictions?
  18. Do we need any kind of permits or insurance for the wedding?
  19. Is there a bridal room and groom suite?
  20. What time do guests have to leave the venue?
  21. When do we need the final headcount?
  22. Are there any other fees not included in the cost?
  23. When is the balance due?
  24. What is your cancellation policy?

Do a Lot of Thinking

After our meeting/tour, they put our date on hold for a week and Troy and I had time to think. I spent that time imagining what we could do with the space, weighing the pros and cons, and finally deciding TO BOOK OUR VENUE!

The wedding is still 20 months out, but it feels a lot more real now that we have a date and a place! We are getting married on a 10 acre lot with a large pond, a barn, a cottage, a house, a covered brick patio (where our reception will be), and a gazebo (where our ceremony will be)! We are having a small and intimate wedding, with less than 100 people. I am so excited to see the space come together and most of all- I can’t wait to marry my best friend!

I’m Feeling 22…

NOT USED (5).png

On New Year’s Day, I turned 22 *cue T Swift’s song*! My birthday was truly a perfect day from start to end. The Lord has given me so much to adore in this life- all glory be to Him.

I wanted to share my special day with all of you! So consider yourself invited… to my 22nd birthday partaaaay!😉🎉

First thing that morning, I spent quality time with my mom… aka the sunshine of my life… aka the greatest human I know.

Next, my mom, sister in law, fiancé & I all went to BD’s Mongolian Grill… which is one of my favorite restaurants! The cooks sang to me when they saw my “birthday princess” button! I can still hear it now: “H-A-P-P-Y, it’s your birthday, have stir fry!” And our server made me this awesome tinfoil birthday bow (which I wore the entire meal, thank you very much)!

After lunch, I went home and had a small birthday party with my parents, my brother and sister in law, and my fiancé. My cake was so sprinkly, my candles were glittery, and my plates were shiny… what more could I want?!

IMG_9332.jpg To end my evening, we spent some time with Troy’s family. And finally *drum roll, please*… I saw THE GREATEST SHOWMAN with Troy & my best gal pals! The film was spectacular!

That night I layed in bed… reminiscing on what a wonderful birthday I had, and what a wonderful life I have. The older I get the years seem to be going by faster, and the blessings seem more abundant.

Happy 2018, everyone!

All my love, Emily Ryann.💖
